The Friends of Winterfield Park was set up in 2011 with the aim of preserving Winterfield Park as an amenity open and recreational space for the town of Dunbar and surrounding communities. The Friends wish to encourage the local community to become actively involved in the park. The Friends, together with the Council, are developing a programme of improvemnets to the park. The Friends have created a small picnic area within the park and are currently working with the Council in a project to introduce new planting beds into the park.
Winterfield Park is located in Dunbar, overlooking the North Sea and is one of the main public open spaces in the town. It is held in great affection by the local community. The park falls within John Muir Country Park and opens onto the Clifftop Trail, part of the John Muir Way, the long distance coastal route from Musselburgh to Dunglass.
The park is used for both formal sports, rugby and tennis, and for informal recreation such as walking, running, kite flying, cricket and dog walking. The park is on the level and easily accessible to visitors with a range of abilities.
