Unpacking the Wines of Greece (Tasting)

7:30 pm - 8:30 pm April 30, 2026
Some people say "wine is all Greek to me" - but in fact Greece is where wine begins! Archeological evidence suggests that Greece probably has a longer history of winemaking than anywhere in the world. It is sometimes called 'oinotria' - the land of the vine. Until 40 or 50 years ago many of the wines were heavy and disappointing, but since Greece joined the EU is 1981, it has attracted huge investment in wine growing and production and it now has a system of wine law similar to other EU countries.
There are now many shiny clean wineries with the latest facilities run by young winemakers with huge international experience - but usually making wines from Greece's amazing traditional grape varieties. We will explore 8 different wines from different regions of Greece - a mixture of whites, rosé and reds.
Gareth Morgan chose the Greek name Oinoudidasko for his former wine education business - Greek for "I learn of wine". He studied the Greek language and has developed an interest in wines of Greece - but this will be his first ever Greek wine presentation!
The evening will end with a light supper of bread and specially selected cheeses - and there will be chance to retaste the wines with the food.
There is no fixed charge for this event, but the event is arranged in support of the Scottish Refugee Council and we suggest a donation of around £28/person if that is possible (but you are free to give more or less according to your circumstances). You can now book multiple places if you wish. You can also choose to add one donation for all the places your are booking (no need to make a separate payment for each) - and you can even Gift Aid your donation if you are a taxpayer.
