7:30 pm - February 26, 2026
The Wine Room Dunbar
10 Kings Court
Dunbar, EH42 1ZG

Although most wines can be be enjoyed as a drink, there are times when a wine is too thin to enjoy and it is better to distil it in order to concentrate the aromas, which will often show beautifully after a few years ageing in cask: we call this brandy. But alcohol can also emerge from fermenting grain, especially barley, and ageing it in very similar barrels to make whisky!

In this tasting we will contrast four leading brandies (grape spirits) from Europe, including top Cognacs, against four single malt Scotch whiskies. We will also see how the two worlds come together when whisky is aged in wine casks.

You will have the option to compare the spirits neat or mixers will be available if you would rather try them as cocktails!

The evening will end with a light supper of bread and specially selected cheeses - from Scotland and from France - and there will be chance to retaste the samples with the food.

There is no fixed charge for this event, but the event is arranged in support of the Scottish Refugee Council and we suggest a donation of around £28/person if that is possible (but you are free to give more or less according to your circumstances). You can now book multiple places if you wish. You can also choose to add one donation for all the places your are booking (no need to make a separate payment for each) - and you can even Gift Aid your donation if you are a taxpayer.
