Siccar Point Open Day

Siccar Point on the Scottish Borders coast is one of the most significant locations in the history of geology. It was here in 1788 that James Hutton predicted, and then found, an unconformity – a geological feature that represents a significant gap in the geological record, and shows how the Earth’s surface is continually recycled and regenerated by natural processes.

To celebrate the Tercentenary of James Hutton’s birth, the Edinburgh Geological Society and partners are creating a new Deep Time Trail at Siccar Point. The trail will lead visitors along the 1.3 km route from the nearest road to the viewpoint above Siccar Point. Along the way, Hutton’s story gradually unfolds.

Join geologists from the Edinburgh Geological Society at Siccar Point to explore the new Deep Time Trail and find out more about James Hutton and this famous location.
