Heritage Skills Taster Events (am/pm)

2:00 pm - 4:00 pm April 8, 2025
Dunbar High Street
High Street
Dunbar, EH42

Masonry and metalwork taster sessions will take place on the High Street where residents can learn how to rake out, point and plaster a rubble wall using lime render and paint, or see demonstrations of metal work gate repairs in various locations.

The special workshops, taking place across Dunbar, aim to teach residents a variety of hands-on skills, the first of which will be a close repair and refurbishment demonstration held at Purves Close, Dunbar High Street, from Tuesday until next Thursday (April 10), from 10am to noon and 2-4pm.

Free to attend, the workshop is run by Darren Brown and Ben Gilmour, and participants can expect to receive tips in wall plastering and painting with lime rendering.

Jamie Goodwin, of The Ridge, will lead the Saturday workshop on April 26 at Black Bull Close on Dunbar High Street.

He will run two classes, beginning at 10am and 2pm, for anyone eager to learn how to point a wall with hot lime.

As part of Dunbar's Spring Clean events, demonstrations will be held outside Dunbar Museum and Town House. This session focuses on metalwork and gate repair. It will take place all day on April 26 from 11am to 4pm.

Trainers will be on site all day for these events, and a Q&A session will be available from 1pm to 2pm.

The training is free for all to attend, but a place must be booked on one of the taster sessions by emailing regeneration@eastlothian.gov.uk
