So often people say “I think this wine needs a bit more time” or “I think this wine is past it” – but how do you tell? What’s the right age? What about good vintages and poor vintages?

The only way to know is to compare wines from different years from the same property – known as a ‘vertical tasting’.

For this event we will taste eight red Bordeaux wines, all from the same leading Cru Bourgeois château in the Haut-Médoc, that Gareth has carefully collected over many years. Each of the wines has been in his cellar since released by the chateau. Red Bordeaux is often seen as the best wine in the world to develop with age.

We will start from a young vintage around 4 years old and work back to a bottle that is 30 years old, in most cases with details of the weather and the winemaking! For those who enjoy claret for a special meal at Easter, this is the ultimate pre-Easter event!

The evening will end with a light supper of bread and specially selected French cheeses - and the chance to retaste the wines with the food.

There is no fixed charge for this event, but the event is arranged in support of the Scottish Refugee Council and in view of the special wines being served we suggest a donation of around £35/person if that is possible (but you are free to give more or less according to your circumstances).

Please note that a separate booking is needed for each person attending - so if you are booking two people please go through the booking process for each person. If you are booking for a guest please book with the name of the person attending - but you can give your own email if you would like the confirmation to come to yourself.
