Bordeaux Grand Cru Classe Vertical Tasting

A 'vertical tasting' compares wines from different vintages from the same property. It's especially appropriate with top quality red wines of Bordeaux which age and develop very gently over time. It's also fascinating to discover the significant differences of style between different years of the same wine due to weather patterns which might mean one year the Cabernet Sauvignon ripens best whereas another year the Merlot plots may give the best results - so the final assemblage may vary considerably between years.

Two years ago we did our first vertical tasting which many people enjoyed, but this will be considerably more special as we will taste 8 different vintages of Château Batailley, one of the small number of Bordeaux châteaux rated Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Even to taste one Grand Cru Classé wine in a tasting usually a very special occasion, but for this event the whole tasting will be 8 different Grand Cru Classé wines, all from the same château but different years!

The eight vintages will start from 2018 and we'll work back to the 1990 vintage that is now 35 years old! For anyone who enjoys top class red Bordeaux with some maturity this will be an amazing evening.

The evening will end with a light supper of bread and very specially chosen French cheeses largely from regions close to Bordeaux - and there will be chance to retaste the wines with the food.

There is no fixed charge for this event, but the event is arranged in support of the Scottish Refugee Council and in view of the fact that the tasting will include eight different Grand Cru Classé bottles we suggest a donation of around £48/person if that is possible (but you are free to give more or less according to your circumstances). You can now book multiple places if you wish.  You can also choose to add one donation for all the places your are booking (no need to make a separate payment for each) - and you can even Gift Aid your donation if you are a taxpayer.
