West Barns Community (West Barns CC) is one of 20 community councils in East Lothian. They were set up in 1974 when Scottish local government reorganisation saw the end of the old town, parish and  Burgh Councils.

West Barns is one of 4 community councils in Dunbar and East Linton Ward along with the Royal Burgh of Dunbar ,Dunpender and East Lammermuir Community Councils. The 4 community councils have equal status although they vary in membership size.
West Barns CC has up to 7 members who may be drawn from the main village as well as surrounding smaller communities like Hedderwick,Biel or Belton.
It has a role to ascertain the views of local people and represent their concerns to statutory bodies like East Lothian Council.  It is a statutory consultee on planning matters and may be asked for  views on other local or national government consultations. It has a small annual grant from East Lothian Council that it may give as grants to local groups.
The West Barns CC also arranges the annual village Remembrance service.
The Community Council is a core member of Dunbar and East Linton Area Partnership with one representative on that group.

West Barns CC meets at 7pm on last Thursday of the month in the small hall of West Barns Village Hall.
