European Land Art Festival (elaf) was established back in 2016 as The John Muir Stone Stacking Challenge to promote the joys and benefits of stone stacking.
The festival has undergone a few changes since then and has evolved from a three-day competition to a week-long celebration every July that now also includes land art demonstrations, workshops and live music, attracting visitors and artists from all over the world.
The usual event programme includes:
- Giant Sand drawings on Belhaven beach by renowned artists
- Woodland sculpture workshop lead by acclaimed artist James Brunt
- Stone stacking competitions (including children’s & family events)
- Online Land Art competitions
- Land art artistic challenge competition
- Mosaic workshops
- High Street Art Exhibition
- Music events and a Bar
