Golf at Dunbar, an Open Championship Qualifying course, provides just about everything you can ask for. A challenging links course, stunning scenery, a friendly pro-shop and welcoming clubhouse.
Golf was first recorded in Dunbar in 1617 and The Dunbar Golfing Society was established in 1794. The present course was laid out in 1856 and redesigned over the years by such legends as Old Tom Morris, Ben Sayers and James Braid.
Well defined holes following the natural contours of a narrow strip of land between the old red sandstone deer park wall and the rocky shoreline are hallmarks of this links.
Even with such a wonderful pedigree a round at Dunbar can be enjoyed by players of all abilities and we know that a return visit is always high on any golfers wish list.
As befits such a gem of golf course architecture, it has played host to countless national and international championships. Dunbar hosted the first PGA Championship on the European Tour in 1968, the Tour's flagship event. Competitors in the British Boys, British Ladies, Scottish Professional, Scottish Amateur, Scottish Boys and Ladies Home International championships have all enjoyed the challenge of Dunbar.
In 2017 the Club became the first UK golf club to be awarded a 100% rating by a Mystery Shopper programme promoted by golfs national bodies.
Today the thriving membership consists of men, ladies, seniors and juniors, each section hosting both competitive and friendly competitions throughout the year.
Dunbar Pro Shop offers a well-stocked shop including Dunbar-crested products and the PGA team provides tailored golf lessons. Summer coaching sessions are offered to local schools encouraging Junior Golf and a ‘Women in Golf’ initiative has also proved successful and summer coaching sessions further encourage Ladies Golf.
A warm welcome and a wonderful golfing experience awaits you at Dunbar.
